Baptism
The sacrament of Baptism is the foundation of the Christian life, cleansing those who receive it from original and personal sin, making them adopted children of God and members of Christ’s body, the Church. Parents looking to have their child Baptized at St. John Vianney should fill out the Baptismal Registration Form which may be accessed here, and then email the completed form to Fr. Gilbaugh at ericgilbaugh@hotmail.com, after which he will contact you. Adults who have not been baptized may prepare to enter the Church through our OCIA program.
Reconciliation
The sacrament of Reconciliation reveals God’s desire for every person to be reconciled to Him and live in communion with Him. Confessions are heard from 3-4:30pm on Saturdays or by appointment.
Preparation for a child’s First Reconciliation takes place in second grade during Religious Education. All Religious Education classes start in early September and a child’s first Reconciliation will take place towards the end of the year as we approach Easter.
First Communion
The Eucharist is the mystery in which Christ’s sacrifice on the cross is perpetuated. It is the source and summit of the Christian life. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is a grace-filled devotion offered at St. John Vianney’s beginning Sunday after the late morning Mass and concluding just prior to noon Mass on Monday. It is also offered on Tuesday evenings from 7-9pm.
Preparation for a child’s First Holy Communion takes place in second grade during Religious Education. It begins in early September and culminates with a First Communion Mass for these children around Easter.
Confirmation
Confirmation is a sacrament of initiation through which Baptismal grace is strengthened and deepened, uniting the newly confirmed more closely to the mission of the Church. Adults may receive Confirmation through our OCIA program. For high school students, we offer one year of preparation that is in conjunction with our youth ministry program. Those interested in being Confirmed may register through the office of Religious Education at the beginning of the academic year. If you have questions specific to our preparation program, please e-mail sjvyouthmin@gmail.com or call the parish office.
Marriage
St. Paul tells us that the self-giving love of husband and wife signifies the fidelity of love between Christ and the Church. Couples wishing to be prepared for marriage at St. John Vianney need to call the parish office to schedule an appointment with the pastor.
Anointing of the Sick
The gospels are filled with signs of Jesus’ compassion for the sick, both in spirit and body. His love for the sick continues through the Church in the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick by healing our wounds and restoring us to communion with the Father. To schedule a time to be anointed or for emergencies, please call the parish office.
Priesthood and Consecrated Life
The witness of priests and religious in the Church and world is of great value, reminding us of Christ’s union with the Church and our ultimate fulfillment being in communion with God for eternity. Are you considering the priesthood or religious life? Do you need assistance in discerning your vocation? Please call the parish office to schedule a meeting with the pastor.
